On November 22 Lebanon celebrated the 75th anniversary of its independence. The Mekhitarist Fathers School students celebrated this occasion throughout the day on Friday, November 23, 2018 . Early in the morning, they visited the Lebanese army's 11th unit, where they watched the combat performance of the soldiers, and in their turn, they recited poems and sang songs dedicated to Lebanon and its army. On this joyful occasion, the principal Mrs. Rita Boyadjian handed a commemorative trophy to the general of the army unit to congratulate the Lebanese Independence anniversary jubilee.
After returning to school, the students planted a cedar tree in the school to immortalize the 75th anniversary of Lebanon's independence.
At the end of the day, the students had a celebration, which began with the Lebanese and the Armenian anthems. The opening speech was delivered by the Arabic language teacher Mr. Roy Assaad, who said: "The homeland is not a land where we live, but an entity that lives in us. And it’s not wrong to say that Lebanon is more than a homeland, because it is a message of unity in diversity, a message of hope in misery, and a message of peace in the cruel world”. He ended his speech by saying that Lebanon is for all of us, with its sea and land, wishing that this independence becomes the harbor for all the Lebanese people and they always remain united.
All the students from kindergarten classes up to 8th grade successively came up on the stage expressing their love and respect for their homeland, its army, its land and flag, through reciting poems, songs, theatrical pictures and dances.
In her speech, the principal Mrs. Rita Boyadjian pointed out to the students that with their visit to the army, the tree planting and this celebration, they glorified the independence that was not easily given, but rather it had required a great deal of sacrifices. The Lebanese were able to gain it thanks to the devoted people who believed in their homeland. The ceremony ended with the best wishes delivered from all the family of Mekhitarist Fathers School to Lebanon.
